In 2012, we started to track brown bears, the largest land animal and considered as one of the flag species in our country.
A brown bear (Ursus arctos), which we tracked on a leash with a satellite transmitter in 2013, went to Artvin from Sarıkamış forests and returned to Sarıkamış forest for hibernation, becoming the first migratory brown bear recorded in the world. Using the afforestation route recommended by the KuzeyDoğa Society for the wildlife corridor, confirmed that this route proposal is a viable choice.
The weight of the brown bear named Karadayı was 360 kg.
The collars automatically fall off the brown bear’s neck at the end of two years of monitoring.
We learn about the habitat and seasonal behavior of brown bears (Ursus arctos) with the ongoing capture and follow-up studies.
In order to get information about their genetic diversity and nutrition, the samples taken are examined with laboratory studies.
To protect them and improve their condition, the first step is to learn about them and understand their vital needs.
The results of the study provide us a scientific basis for nature conservation studies.
